Job Description:
The Information Architect (IA) helps design world-class user experiences for a wide variety of client websites, web applications, e-mail campaigns, and more. The IA will support senior IAs on large projects and serve as the IA lead on smaller projects. The ideal candidate will meet the following qualifications:
Required Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
- BS/BA degree in technical communication, information design, information architecture, cognitive psychology, or related field.
- 2 or more years of experience as an information architect, content developer/writer, interaction designer, or similar user experience role.
- Demonstrated in-depth understanding of best practices and research-based principles in at least 2 of the following areas; familiarity with all of the following areas:
- Information architecture
- Behavioral research
- Content development and writing
- Interaction design
- Usability and accessibility
- Experience gathering and documenting user requirements.
- Experience creating deliverables such as wireframes, taxonomies, content inventories, site maps, screen flows or process diagrams, task analyses, user scenarios and personas, competitive analyses, etc. At least 3 work samples are required to apply.
- Excellent communicator able to
- Efficiently create clear, error-free deliverables for clients and for our creative design and technical teams.
- Confidently advocate for user experience principles and design decisions on a project—in a professional, collaborative manner.
- Speak thoughtfully and listen carefully and use these skills to build strong relationships with clients and colleagues
- Occasionally write copy for client e-mails or websites.
- Ability to follow direction from a project’s User Experience Lead and/or the User Experience Discipline Director.
- Ability to estimate hours required for own work, meet deadlines; ability to proactively ask questions or seek assistance if a task is unclear.
- Ability to understand complex business issues and develop solutions to simplify them for the end users.
- Ability to influence groups to adapt the best solutions and to develop wise compromises when necessary.
- Ability to find answers to difficult questions and inform design decisions through self-guided research.
- Must be a quick learner, a self-motivator, a hard worker, a systematic and critical thinker, a problem-solver, and an excellent collaborator with the user experience team, the requirements team, the content strategy team, the creative design team, and the development team.
Required Tools:
- OmniGraffle
- MS Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Some familiarity with HTML, JavaScript, and/or CSS
Nice to Haves:
- MA/MS degree in technical communication, information design, information architecture, cognitive psychology, or related field.
- Training in information mapping a plus.
- Experience conducting content inventories or taxonomy reviews for large websites a plus.
- Experience with content management systems and software, including metatagging, a plus.
- Familiarity with accessible design principles, Section 508, and W3C guidelines a plus.
- Fluency with both Macintosh and Windows platforms a plus.
- Experience with simulation tools such as Axure or iRise a plus.
- Experience designing user experiences for channels in addition to the web (such as mobile websites and applications, kiosks, interactive voice response systems) a plus.
- Familiarity with web 2.0 technologies and features (social networking, blogging, RSS/content distribution, widgets, etc.) and new AJAX/JavaScript interactions a plus.
- Experience with search engine optimization a plus.
- Experience with Web Trends, Omniture or other web analytic tools a plus.
